How to Clean Selenite Crystals

The term selenite is derived from the Greek word selēnitēs, which translates to ‘stone of the moon’. Due to this, it is also sometimes referred to as moonstone, although this is not the same stone as what is usually called moonstone. This stone is most often found in the United States of America and Europe, although it can be found in every continent except Africa and Antarctica.

Selenite is usually clear but may have small tints of rainbow colors or inclusions. Whether you have selenite crystals, selenite jewelry, or selenite rose clusters, you may be looking for information on how to properly clean selenite crystals.

Cleansing Selenite Crystals

  1. Wash your selenite with warm water.
Sometimes this is enough to cleanse selenite but sometimes it is not strong enough.
  2. Using a small, gentle brush can be a great way to remove small particles from any crevices in the crystal.
If necessary, a mild or diluted soap solution can be used with warm water for a stronger clean.
  3. If there are any larger particulates which you need to remove, don’t use a sharp object like a knife.
It is recommended to use a gentler material such as wood because it is much less likely to scratch your mineral specimen or jewelry.
